The Church Was Infiltrated… And the Gates of Hell Did Not Prevail

By Guillermo Moreno

If infiltration is grounds for disobeying the Church’s authority, then is there a line? Because the Church has been infiltrated before, repeatedly during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Radical traditionalists either ignore or are oblivious of the times when the Church was infiltrated by the likes of the Theophylacti, the Borgias, and the Medici. Depending on which rad trad denomination, infiltration is grounds for independence from Rome at best, and sedevacantism at worst. This article addresses these instances of Church infiltration, but adheres to Christ’s promise in Matthew 16, that the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Catholic Church.

Yet, even within faithful Catholic circles, opponents of Communion in the hands object to it with a vehemence that is similar to radical traditionalism’s general opposition to the Church after the Second Vatican Council. This article addresses that such resistance is ultimately objecting to the Church’s authority and thus can open the door to dissent.
